NW103.1b: Thresholds Part B

After you’ve successfully worked multiple threshold searches in all elements, you’re going to set up a search with one hide at the threshold and one hide DEEPER in the search area.

What we’re looking for is your dog’s tendencies to be either (a) drawn into the search area by the deeper hide or (b) following the process we’ve been working and indicate the closest hide first.

There is no right/wrong answer but it’s information for YOU to know.

I recommend working these searches ON LEASH and keeping the dog from racing into the search by “blowing by” the threshold. This may or may not assist in getting your dog accustomed to checking the threshold before bolting into the search area.

It’s always a good policy to go back to the beginning of your search area and work that threshold if the dog hasn’t found a hide there. It’s even better when they have and you don’t have to revisit it. 🙂
