Because puppies can show such amazing talents that we FORGET that they still have baby brains that need time to develop. Since WE KNOW one of the major issues dogs have in working K9NW searches (and other activities) is ENVIRONMENT, keeping the young dog on primary is a fantastic way to introduce him to many new locations and situations. You lose NOTHING if he doesn’t feel comfortable enough to eat a treat the first time. You potentially lose A LOT if it is in the presence of odor and those negative associations start to happen.
