    And of course each dog is different! My first NW dog was very subtle – she was slow and methodical and almost never passed a hide – but she was also not very pushy about payment. I really had to learn to read her, and pairing with Liverwurst finally made the difference – “hey mom, where’s the Liverwurst?” There is nothing subtle about Hunter’s “pay me now” look – and no Liverwurst needed. He developed that level of communication much faster than Ripton, and I think that is a reflection of very different dog personalities.
