NW103.4: It’s Always Blind To The Dog

In this lesson you’re going to get a helper to place hides for you. I recommend only one hide at a time in an environment with limited distractions.

Have your helper choose locations that are approximately “nose height” or lower where your dog *could* put his/her nose on source but where you cannot see it.

This is a bit of a test for YOU of whether:
(a) Your dog is dedicated to finding source
(b) You can read your dog’s body language of working odor vs. at odor source
(c) Your dog has some type of clear communication that they’ve located that source

Searches should be simple and super easy. If you or your dog has trouble, your helper may need to coach you so your dog has success.

Don’t do too many of these as it can create other problems but it’s a good measure of how your teamwork is coming along. 🙂
